Fashion week and its related industry strives to strike an artful balance between longevity and trends, with designer collections striving for harmony between previous work and breaking some barrier in order to establish new seasonal styles and fashion trends. As new collections debut across the world during Fashion Month we begin seeing clear fashion trends for 2023 emerge – and with hot temperatures taking hold it’s important that summer wardrobe trends for 2023 begin taking form as soon as possible!

At the forefront of every trend is one question that stands out: would I wear it myself? With mermaidcore, rosettes and shades of lavender becoming summer trends, celebrities often serve as guides on whether a particular trend suits.
As consumers, we navigate trends just like designers do – from aspirational pieces that push our buttons to affordable choices that suit our budgets; is shopping for now exhilarating yet temporary; or are purchases long term investments designed with permanence and longevity in mind? Unfortunately there’s no one-size-fits-all answer here; only your preferences matter!
Staying aware of trends and the shifting landscape of your closet is to be an informed consumer. Trend cycles move at such an incredible rate that getting caught up is easy; fashion requires choosing to consciously join trends selectively rather than participating actively with every fashion movement that arises – no designer includes every new trend in their collections and neither should you.
Fashion trends for 2023 vary considerably. Rosette accessories and Y2K influences persist alongside an increase in too-sheer-for-work slip dresses as well as delicate dip dyeing designs from New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer collections, giving consumers plenty of choices from which they can pick and choose their adventure game plan – but only select few will likely end up fitting into your closet – I have selected eight trends from New York Fashion Week as being important ones to try this summer.
STYLECASTER | Fashion Trends 2023
TORY BURCH, KIM SHUI, and JASON WU from IMAXTREE will join forces on STYLECASTER to project future fashion trends for 2023.
At times, one show can spark an entire trend; here it was sheerness inspired by Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection that reignited this movement. First seen back in February but felt most strongly this past New York Fashion Week (NYFW), not having undergarment show through is no longer taboo; rather preferred! Many major collections included completely see-through garments on their runways: Tory Burch demonstrated this concept perfectly while Kim Shui gave all too willing designers like herself an opportunity to expose all.
Although many sheer pieces may be suitable for street style statements or nights in dimly lit rooms, Jason Wu provided us with numerous examples of sheer design in formal wear. His show featured various floral, sparkly, lace, and jewel tone gowns which featured floral, sparkly patterns along with sheer fabric in floral, sparkly patterns (florals), sparkle patterns, lacing detail (lace), jewel tones as well as jewel tones in floral patterning (floral). When interviewed backstage moments before his show started he said something similar when asked backstage minutes beforehand he said something similar by saying he said to that effect and added: he mentioned “You might see another side to Jason Wu that you might not recognize… but get used to it.”

Feathers were once ubiquitously bordering every sleeve and hemline; today however, tassels and fringe have officially taken over! Tassel trim typically offers neutral tones which makes it suitable for wardrobe minimalists as well as designers such as Bevza (known for elevated neutrals) to Bronx & Banco who embraced long fringe as part of their signature aesthetics.
Bronx and Banco designer Natalie De’Banco provided me with exclusive insight regarding her shift from luxurious nightlife aesthetics seen in Fall/Winter 22/23 collection to earth tone glam in Spring/Summer ’23: “Considering our resort collection was so lively and vibrant, our palette will remain neutral yet relaxing, featuring blacks, beiges, splashes of electric peach, lipstick coral and neon lime to add pops of color into this year’s collection.”
Textured tassel trim will become the go-to trend come spring 2023; but that doesn’t mean you have to wait that long to enjoy this trend! Tassels and fringe are stunning when combined with neutral sweaters or hanging from suede boots as part of an ensemble or added behind heavy leather or suede jackets for instant style points.
