Amy Schumer had initially signed on, only for creative differences to force her out later, per The Hollywood Reporter. Later that same year, Robbie was confirmed as playing Barbie; as Variety noted: it comes “with many nostalgic connections but can also bring up fresh angles of attack; people may initially assume they know exactly what kind of movie this will be until hearing that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it!”
Gosling was candid about playing Ken at CinemaCon 2023 in April: “To be perfectly honest: until recently I only knew Ken from a distance; doubted my Kenergy,” he admitted.
