What TV Shows Can I Watch on Paramount Plus? Paramount Plus boasts over 8,000 episodes from TV networks such as CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET and Smithsonian Channel as well as its original series such as Star Trek: Discovery (with Christopher Pike portrayed by Christopher Pine), Picard (Pierce Ingram), Good Fight / Stand (Charlton Heston/John Goodman), Kamp Koral: SpongeBob Under Years/For Heaven’s Sake/Why Women Kill).

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter from 2022, Raffaele Annecchino explained to The Hollywood Reporter why original content plays such an essential part in Paramount Plus’ success. “Our studio, global franchises and local production hubs – such as in Latin America” are key parts of their strategy for competitive advantage, according to Mr. Dolan. “What we call global vision with local execution provides key differentiation.” Because streaming is global, for it to be successful it requires an individual go-to-market strategy tailored for every market. We customize local strategies in terms of marketing, distribution and content using our unique ecosystem in each individual market. He continued: “Many see legacy businesses as burdens; however, at our company we’re working to turn them into competitive advantages to boost streaming revenue streams. Utilizing teams who understand local markets allows us to utilize all available assets. Think about Telefe in Argentina or Network 10 in Australia – both free-to-air channels provide streaming content and are used as content engines, expanding IP in local networks. Five Bedrooms was one of the top local shows in Australia for several months and one of Paramount+’s main acquisition drivers there, while 1883 from Yellowstone prequel is popular across Latin America and globally. There are global tentpoles such as Yellowstone, SpongeBob SquarePants Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Star Trek Mission Impossible Top Gun and CSI and local tentpoles like Five Bedrooms as well.

Annecchino also revealed plans for Paramount Plus to become the exclusive streaming home for shows such as South Park and produce more international series. “South Park will return home, to make Paramount+ its exclusive home for South Park; now that we have global opportunities, more and more we want to repatriate major IPs back onto our platforms,” he noted. He continued: “This year we are producing over 50 international scripted originals; in addition we will introduce seven Shores episodes as well as NCIS: Sydney for our international strategy so we have unrivalled content diversity.”

Paramount Plus’ Chief Content Officer David Nevins shared with Deadline in 2021 the following explanation of what differentiated Paramount+ from other streaming services. “You should see quite a lot of stuff coming out over the next three to four months – we are finally emerging from Covid hangover and you’re already seeing Taylor Sheridan stuff being introduced as well as expanding Star Trek and adult animation franchises – I would point to certain factors which I feel may differentiate Paramount+ over time,” Nevins noted at that time.

He continued, “Our focus has always been franchises – from expanding Star Trek through Nickelodeon strategy that’s been heavily focused on franchises to building out Star Trek itself as part of that.” Taylor Sheridan has done amazing work; Grease is shaping up as one of the key shows of 2019. Fatal Attraction will also play a huge role this year and The Offer touches upon Paramount history with The Godfather as its flagship franchise – it will show. He went on to discuss Paramount Plus’ plans to expand internationally and his desire for it to have the “movie feel” associated with Paramount Pictures’ blockbusters. “Our international rollout strategy is clearly articulated.We plan on being aggressive about creating content there that could potentially come back and become known franchises here; at the same time we want to put out something truly distinctive for Europe as well.” he commented. “Currently we operate across much of the English-speaking world such as Australia and Canada; by mid-next year however, this will include most of Europe. Paramount+ will launch first in key territories such as the UK, Italy and Germany before SkyShowtime is introduced as our joint adventure with Comcast to cover Europe as a whole. Of course we already offer Paramount+ across Latin America so this project should move quickly towards becoming reality.”

He continued: “Our aim at Paramount+ is for its works to have the feel and tone associated with classic Hollywood, featuring actors and plotlines of interest to people across America as well as internationally. You should see this philosophy play out across most of what we’re producing.”

Paramount Plus’ plans to grow are ambitious, yet Nevins recognizes it is still relatively new streaming service. “Every process takes some time; currently we are expanding by ramping up development activity.” He explained, “it wasn’t as though there were seventy items on my development slate which I needed to evaluate and remove 40 of. As we continue this transition – being an emerging service with rapid expansion – as an organization we try to invest rapidly as well. As for expansion and focus, I believe the process should more be about expanding and refining than throwing things out; you must play to your strengths. What strengths does our studio possess? A few include our vast library of rich IP; talented producers like Robert King and Michelle King as well as Alex Kurtzman and Taylor Sheridan are hallmarks of success for any media company as are newcomers such as Kenya Barris and Rashida Jones bringing new talent in.”

Nevins also discussed Paramount Plus’ partnership with Showtime and how collaboration with other networks can bring mutually beneficial partnerships for both companies. “The bundle between Showtime and Paramount+ has been doing very well; Mayor of Kingstown not only benefits Paramount+, but it will drive subscriptions over to Showtime from Paramount+ subscribers; similarly Dexter will drive even more subscribers over to Paramount+ than it otherwise would.” He commented.

“Our bundle has been doing very well for us and more and more people seem to purchase it all together; similar to my experience as an ESPN+ subscriber who also subscribes to Hulu and Disney+; these services can all make for great bundles; similarly, we are creating our own bundles which meet consumer demand as soon as you’ve watched Mayor of Kingstown you can then move over to Showtime to watch Dexter or vice versa.”

However, Nevins acknowledged the “value” in keeping brands separate: “I think having some separation between brands has its advantages: If you have children and are signing them up for programming via Paramount+ alone or both paramount and Showtime at once then BET+ works really well; its pure play programming aligns perfectly with Black households who watch both BET+ and Showtime or both paramount+ simultaneously so I think both brands offer value to one another if used together effectively and combine well together.” So overall I see both brands having value; just needing careful thought as to ensure both brands coexist peacefully together while working well together

As for his favorite Paramount Plus show, Nevins listed Star Trek: Picard and Mayor of Kingstown amongst them as two recommendations: “Picard was particularly captivating; I became emotionally attached.” “[Patrick Stewart’s] comeback as that iconic character late in life was so exciting; but I am equally enthusiastic about Mayor of Kingstown and Grease’s future development.” “My tastes tend to run broad,” he stated, adding, “another show I think will blow people’s socks off is The Offer; after watching four episodes so far and loving every minute, this show has absolutely won me over: fun and lively with some really surprising performances, particularly Matthew Goode, Juno Temple and Miles Teller; it feels more like an inside Hollywood story than an escapism drama!”
